Find Out the Secret of Benefiting from over 100 Books Each Year

I didn't believe it the first time I heard a friend of mine say -

"I benefit from the reading of 50 books each year... in my spare time".

Knowing how demanding her time was because of her top position in her job and because she is a single mom, I was certain she was lying and I told her so.

Smiling, she insisted that it was the truth. I would have continued arguing with her until she pointed out to me that she didn't have to physically "read" them, but they were "read" to her while she listened... in her spare time.

Not giving me any opportunity to argue, she went ahead and played an audio book on her CD player for my perusal.

She explained that this was how she had almost any book she wanted read to her as audio books while she prepared for work in the morning, while she prepared her daughter for school, while she did her exercises each day, while she commuted to and from work and any free time she had on hands that didn't involve using her mind.

I was surprised, to say the least, that I could have been doing the same thing in my spare time, instead of just commuting to and from work doing nothing.

You see, my work is one that requires a lot of my time involvement. I have to leave home quite early, spend over an hour on the road because of the constant heavy traffic and when I get to work, I work all day until break time and closing time.

From what this friend of mine explained to me, I knew I had to give audio books a try.

I did and was very impressed.

Now, I can proudly say I also benefit from the reading of up to 50 books each year.

Still don't think it's possible?

Fine, let's do the math:

For an audio book that takes 4 hours, you can have it read to you in just two days - 1 hour each day while preparing for work in the morning and 1 hour each day while commuting to and from work. That's 4 hours in 2 days.

So, if it takes you 2 days to have one audio book read to you, that will be 365 days in a year divided by 2. That will equal about 133 books each year!

That's over double the original 50 audio books we were targeting, right?

Audio books are indeed the secret formula that many people use to get the value from the best books they want to read. With audio books, you can forget the frustration you always had whenever you force yourself to read any book.

For the bookworms back in college that want to continue reading but can't afford the time anymore, you now have a solution in audio books.

Whether you want to use your PC, cassette tape player, CD or even any PDA (Personal Digital Assistant), it is now possible and within your reach for peanuts.

Risk

Risk
In this classic game of military strategy, you will lead your armies as they sweep across vast continents to launch daring attacks against your enemies. But keep an eye on your flanks: your opponents are fighting to capture your troops and claim your territories. Reinforce your armies with additional infantry, cavalry and artillery, then attack with a throw of the dice. Now fortify your positions and prepare to defend your borders from rivals' attacks. Capture all 42 territories - and you conquer the world! Are you up to the challenge' Then embark on the classic Risk game of World Domination. For more challenge, use the rules variations for experts. And for a shorter variation, try the Capital Risk game. For the first time, Risk includes the European game variation called Secret Mission Risk, whose special cards give each player a specific "mission" to complete to win the game. So join the battle to conquer the world... and learn why, since 1959, millions of players have made Risk the military strategy game of choice. For 2 to 6 players. Game includes: game board; 5 battle dice; deck of 44 Risk cards and 12 secret mission cards; 6 sets of military miniatures: infantry, cavalry, artillery.

Customer Review: Risk

This is a game that take a great deal of time to play, but it causes your mind to work as you progress through the levels.

The sudden turn of events will always keep the players on edge.

Customer Review: Good game - but I miss the army boxes

We bought this game of risk to replace our old game, which was lost in a move. There are several differences in the new risk and the old risk. One difference is the mission cards. At first I was disapointed that the mission cards were not the same as the old risk, but after playing a few games, I admit that it is just as much fun. The other difference with the game is the lack of army boxes. The old game came with a clear plastic box to store each army color in. This game does not have boxes, just wells in the box to store each color. The clear boxes were quite useful during the game as you spend a lot of time taking armies out and putting armies in the box as you lose or gain reinforcements. I find the lack of boxes a pain as pieces fall on the floor etc. when you just have them piled on the table. However, it is still a great game and we are happy with this version.

Living Yoga - Power Stamina Yoga for Beginners

Living Yoga - Power Stamina Yoga for Beginners
The Living Arts® Yoga for Beginners stamina video is an easy-to-use beginners program designed to help you learn the basics for power yoga.

Customer Review: Great for someone w/ a little yoga experience

When I first began yoga, this tape quickly become my favorite after familiarizing myself w/ basic poses (using Yoga Conditioning for Weight Loss). I would recommend this to someone who has learned the basics and is looking for something a little more challenging.

Rodney Yee is practicing on a beach, in Hawaii. The majority of this workout conisists of Sun Salutations w/ lunges and Warrior poses. There are a few seated or lying down moves and a nice 5 min. cooldown at the end. Total workout time: 20 min.

All in all, this is a great tape to have if you are a beginner who is ready to move on OR as a standby for the more advanced practitioner as its a nice quick, feel good workout.

Customer Review: My go-to yoga tape!

This was one of two tapes I got when I started practicing yoga. (The other was Living Arts Total Yoga, which I also like, but which is somewhat different in style and is 60 minutes long.) I agree with other reviewers that Rodney Yee goes through the poses very quickly, not allowing much time to contemplate them or adjust into them. But as a beginner, I did not find this an impediment to enjoying the practice. As one reviewer pointed out, yoga is a journey. You're not going to be able to do every pose perfectly the first time. In fact, the beginning of every yoga tape urges the user to view the whole tape first. Show of hands, how many have actually done that? Yeah, me neither. Then maybe we'll have to accept that we'll be a little awkward the first few times.

I have since bought many other tapes (and some books) that have helped me understand each pose better. However, I still learn something new every time I do this workout. I like the flow of one pose to another. I like the repetition, too. And it is a nice little complete workout. You'll stretch, strengthen, breathe hard, stretch some more, and relax. The poses are somewhat challenging, yet very accessible to beginners. I always feel very bendy and centered afterward.

It's important to me to do some form of exercise every day. The length of this tape makes it easy to fit into my life. It's the tape I reach for most often for that reason.

How to Create Professional Audio Books from Scratch

My name is Alan Twigg and I'm writing this article to offer advice to anyone thinking of creating their own professional audio books.

In the New Year I came up with the idea of creating professional children?s stories and offering them for download on the internet. The thing was, however, while I had someone to write the stories - my mother - and someone to market the stories ? me, I knew nobody who knew about how to record the stories professionally. I knew it must be reasonably easy, since I only wanted to create an audio book containing speech.

I started doing research on Google - but all the articles I found contained so much technical gobbledygook ? I was soon put off. So I went to my local music store for advice on what to buy. I decided to use my computer to create the audio books and this is what I bought:

1 microphone stand

1 pop-screen (that's a piece of material that is placed just in front of the microphone to stop your ?Ps? from popping)

1 studio microphone

1 software program (Wavelab)

1 USB Audio/MIDI interface (TASCAM US 122 with phantom power)

1 pair of heaphones

It all came to 650 euros (800) dollars.

I connected my Audio/MIDI interface (this is basically a really good sound card in an external case) to my computer using the USB cable provided. I then set up my microphone and attached the microphone cable to the MIDI interface. After installing the software, I was ready to go.

The results have been great and I find Wavelab software powerful and incredibly easy to use.

Some Audio Book recording tips

I first get my entire copy ready before starting the recording. I pin the sheets of paper with the text that I am going to read in front of me onto the wall. Then, at about 8 inches away from the microphone, I start to talk. The more natural you can be the more interesting you will sound to your listeners. I found that the best thing to do is to stand in front of the microphone and make gestures in the same way as you would when talking to a close friend. If you stand there stiff like a statue, you'll come across in the same way in your recording.

Another thing that I like to do before starting the recording is to get myself into a really good mood. Again, this will add to the impact of your recording. I always listen to a few uplifting songs and get enthusiastic before starting. You should also try to make sure that you keep the same distance from the microphone.

And that?s it ? I hope that this article will save you a little bit of time setting up your own home recording studio and I wish lots of success with your audio books.

The author of this article is Alan Twigg. My business is Playtime books, which offers new and contemporary audio books for the 3 to 10-year-old age group. You will find this site at http://www.playtime-books.com.

We had started out on this mission of information on book on cd with lots of optimism. And we have also ended it in the same manner.

Today's book on cd Article
5 Ways To Buy Cheaper Books

So you?ve just spent thousands of dollars on tuition; now you can register for your courses. When you look at the book list for each class, you realize that your professors expect you to spend at least another thousand on books! Here are some ways you can minimize the expenses of books.

1. Buy online.

If you go to alibris.com, or amazon.com, or chapters.com, you can often get a good selection of books at a discounted price. Alibris and Amazon are particularly helpful because they have used books available. Amazon offers you used books through their marketplace option. Alibris automatically searches for used books. Remember that when you order books online you can often get free shipping. At Amazon, the free shipping is not available with used books. So grab a calculator and find out what the best option for you is.

If you start looking for your books in advance, certain online sites offer you discounts if you shop more often. Alibris will send you a coupon for 10% off your next purchase. Is it worth it to break your order up to get this discount? Do you know someone who recently bought books online, and can you borrow their code? Can you find any special discount keys on the internet? (These discount codes won?t be available on the site itself: you will need to google other sites to find out).

One last point about buying books online: eBay, though not specializing in books, often has books at a fraction of their cost. Just check the shipping prices to make sure that you are getting a bargain. You can get new or used books on eBay: often eBay stores are the best place to search so that you can ?Buy it Now?; sometimes waiting for the end of an auction is the way to go.

2. Scan Around School.

Used bookstores are often located very close to college and university campuses. Often times, students sell the school books that they don?t want to use again. You don?t have to spend hours in each bookstore looking for each book: simply walk into the bookstore with a list and ask the store clerk or owner if they have what books you are looking for. The person in the bookstore will be able to help you much more quickly than you would be able to find the books yourself: they might check a computer, or they might know exactly where it is, or they might be able to take you to the spot on the shelves where it would be if they had it.

3. Be edition-savvy.

Buying used would be great, but you need to have edition 847 of Microbiology; it just came out this year! Ask your professor if it is okay to use an older edition of the text. Many textbooks are reprinted frequently, and even your prof can?t keep up with the latest updates. Offer to photocopy the extra chapter, if there is an extra chapter added to the latest edition. If you need to have the latest edition, buying online is probably your best way to find the cheapest one.

Textbooks are not the only books that you have to be edition-savvy for. If you are slated to read Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, there have been many different versions of this book published (and some you can get at a used bookstore for only a scant few dollars). Ask your prof (you can phone or email them) if they want you to have a particular edition. Sometimes they want you to (literally) be on the same page as them; other times they just want you to follow along as best you can. If they want you to get a certain critical edition, again, offer to photocopy the literary criticism.

4. Weigh the Benefits.

Some books are considered recommended reading. Is it worth getting? Is the prof ever going to refer to these books? Why not wait until later in the year. If the prof mentions something crucially important in a certain book, then you can consider getting the book later if you need to. You?d be surprised how many books make the syllabus without even being mentioned through the entire year.

Other times, it might save you time and hassle to simply get the book. For instance, if you are in a first year English class, and they recommend buying the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers, you might as well get the book because you will be using it for the next four years. Ask an older student in your class what books are worth getting.

If it?s not worth buying a book, you can often read what you need to read in the library. You can also borrow classmates? books from time to time.

5. Photocopy Everything.

I?m not advising that you break any copyright laws here, but sometimes if you can photocopy books, (entire out-of-copyright books, courseware packs, or relevant chapters) you will be saving yourself a ton of money. And the cheapest places to photocopy books are often not on campus. And it?s often cheaper to do it yourself rather than take it to a service. Ask a classmate to borrow the books for one day: and always return them the next day.

These five hints to buy cheaper books can more than halve your book expenses. Then you can spend your money on other, more important things (like rent, tuition, or refreshments). Be an active comparison shopper to save yourself tons of money.

Customer Review: Unless your an engineer, pass on this

This book contains plenty info, but most of it isn't relevent to a maitenance man or repair man

Customer Review: Too much like a code book

I was looking for something that would put the key information in simpler terms without all the extra wording that goes into a code book for legal/political reasons. It may be useful to some but not to me.

Christian Books: Our Ways To God

The ultimate Christian book is the Bible. Next to it are the books published specifically as supplements of Christian theology. Individual Christian books that allow both the authors and the readers to explore the realms of Christianity. To interpret philosophical questions and virtually all other things that concern the knowledge on Christian theology.

What there is to it for becoming Christians is usually the most common topic in the majority of Christian books along with all the fields of studies that Christianity and Christian doctrines cover.

Well-written Christian books, poems, articles, and selections have tremendous effects on one's personality and may lead to great changes in a person's points of view. These are powerful instruments for spiritual growth for the person reading them.

Christianity is primarily defined as belief on a Supreme Being, specifically Jesus Christ as humanity's savior. Christians on the other hand, are people who have personal relationship with God. This same relationship has become the greater focus in producing Christian writings.

These books are the materialized responses of man to his Living God. As it is, the greatest and the majority of in-print materials with regards to Christianity are often encircling on the topic about his relationship with the Creator. God is the Supreme Writer of history and the little gods (or the Christians) are the writers of their personal stories with God as the central character.

One reputed source of inspirations that led authors to write their Christian readings, is the Bible. From here did the foundations of theology came from, supported by the scriptures that have been discovered over the centuries, and from here too did the geniuses of Christian readings received and based their best sellers.

This is no miracle since the Bible had been circulating the world since Christianity begun. And copies of it has reached even the remotest areas of the world and the most neglected sections of the societies.

For those who love and have some background on Christian readings, they may identify such books because they often include the following:

- citations and doctrines

- beliefs and dogmas

- Christian manifestos

- fundamentals of Christianity

- true to life stories

- inspirational anecdotes

- meditations and reflections

- aid to prayers

- building personal relationships with God

- Christian theology and prophecies

- articles and news as they relate to predictions

- personal growth and recovery

- personal health

- social issues

- prayers and meditations

- lifestyle management

- wisdom on life

- selections on ministry, discipleship, evangelism, fellowship and worship

- biographies

- fictions, children books and the likes

- guidelines for Christian living and a variety of other things.

Christian books were written out of extraordinary and not so extraordinary encounters. You may find some of them non-pleasing because many reveal philosophies that are against to your personal perspectives. However, this does not negate the fact the larger portion of these reading touches the heart. Most are known to have created deep and great changes among their readers. Not only can people relate with the author's ideas, we are also lead to recreate in us broader sense of religion and enlightenment. These are by and large mind openers. They expose us to what should be believed in and trusted upon.

We are moved by what we read. Why? Because these are tales of personal experiences with the Being we call GOD.

Keyboard skin for 13" MacBook and MacBook Pro 15" / PowerBook

Keyboard skin for 13" MacBook and MacBook Pro 15" / PowerBook
Dampens keystroke sounds, Perfect for home, office, special needs and educational environments, Removable and Washable, maintains natural typing feel, Shows key characters clearly, stays in place and does not shift around, allows for normal typing

Customer Review: Very Happy With It

I bought this for my MacBook Pro 17". It is clear so the light-up keyboard still work perfectly. The original keyboard felt a little flimsy, so this product actually give the keyboard a little more feel to it. Prevent any dust/spill from geting into the keyboard. I just hope they make another one that actually cover the wrist rest area. My wife's cover for macbook has that and it feels great on your wrist.

Customer Review: Worth it!

This skin is great. It's easy to type with it on the keys. It's see through and keeps crumbs, dust and other stuff from getting down in the keys on your keypad.

Saitek P990 Dual Analog Game Pad

Saitek P990 Dual Analog Game Pad
Instantly configure your pad's controls to the perfect set-up for First Person Shooter games with a single button press. The ergonomic controls with soft touch handles increase grip and comfort during hours of gameplay. Advanced programming is provided by Saitek Smart Technology (SST) software. System Requirement: Windows XP & XP64

Customer Review: Not as good as the last one, but...

I bought this controller to replace my old Saitek P880, the previous iteration of this controller, which finally gave out on me after four years of abuse.

For the most part this is still a good, solid controller, except for one factor - The D-pad, compared to the one on my P880, feels incredibly cheap and sometimes sticks, and did so right out of the box. The feel of the other buttons is similar or identical, but the D-pad is rather annoying for games I use it in when it triggers. Mind you, it's maybe one time out of a hundred and fifty or so, but still annoying when it happens.

For the record, I use the controller for the games Phantasy Star Universe and Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst, which are both third-person action games, and the d-pad is used only for menus. For what it's worth, if you play Phantasy Star Universe, this is the only controller I've found that actually has enough buttons for all the functions you can map to a controller, finally removing my need to still use the keyboard for certain things.

If you like controllers with six face buttons rather than the four-button layout that seems to be more common, this is a good one to get, just mind that there can be issues with the D-pad. If your game doesn't use the D-pad, then there isn't a problem I can think of.

Customer Review: Solid control but poor programming software

Overall i am pleased with this gamepad. It works great as long as the game itself has a good control setup of its own as i found the downloadable programming software to be somewhat frustrating. it really isn't very user friendly or pretty(just a minor grip). for some reason assigned buttons just randomly won't do what they are supposed to and have to be reassigned and then still might not work. it shouldn't be difficult or take this much effort to program a controller. however once setup it is very nice.

It's simple, challenging, and addictive. Keep track of your best performances, and keep an eye on the competition

BMW 3 and 5 Series 1982-1992 (Haynes Manuals)

BMW 3 and 5 Series 1982-1992 (Haynes Manuals)
Manuals for the Do-it-yourselfer. All Haynes manuals explain how to carry out routine maintenance, restoration and servicing of cars and motorcycles, and are aimed primarily at the Do-it-yourselfer

Customer Review: Buy another book. Any book.

Where can I start - I bought the Haynes manual to do some work on my E30. The book has two main problems - it doesn't contain the information you need, and some of what little information they bother to include is just plain wrong. It's the sort of book to put on the table in your reception area, if you're a dentist, where people will be so angry after reading a little of it that they'll forget their fear.

If you're thinking of buying the book, here's what to do: Decide on the jobs you need to do, try and figure out from the book whether it tells you how to do them or not (it won't); then buy something else. I'm tempted to go into detail, but really, everything in the book is tackled in such a superficial and unhelpful way that there's no one area I can spotlight. But I'll just note one of the deliberate errors.

If you need to change the water-temperature sensor which tells the engine management system how hot the engine is, just follow the instructions, using the picture provided. They're very specific about which is which... but you'll end up removing the sender for the water temperature gauge. How the guys in the parts department will laugh when they spend hours scratching their heads, trying to find a match for it.

Good luck

Customer Review: Better than nothing but the Bentley books are way better

This is a thick book with most of the information you need. However there are no good drawings and the photos don't help too much. They try to cover too much and are not organized enough. I don't think telling you how to take apart and put together stuff is enough. Diagnostic tips, like the Bentley manual is what you need. However, this is alot cheaper.

Michael Clayton (Widescreen Edition)

Michael Clayton (Widescreen Edition)
Attorney Michael Clayton is a “fixer,” the go-to guy when his powerful New York law firm wants a mess swept under the rug. But now he’s handed a crisis even he may not be able to fix. The firm’s top litigator in a $3-billion case has gone from advocate to whistleblower. And the more Michael tries to undo the damage, the more he’s up against forces that put corporate survival over human life â€" including Michael’s. George Clooney portrays Michael, backed into a career corner that offers little room to fight free in this suspense- and star-packed thriller written and directed by Tony Gilroy (writer/co-writer of the Bourne movie trilogy). Keep your eyes on Michael Clayton. He has some life-or- death decisions to make. Fast.

Customer Review: Previews are better than the movie

The preview look great, but the movie was a bit of a let down.A little slow and not as much action as indicated.

Customer Review: Truth Changes

Michael Clayton is a movie about a "janitor" for a large law firm. The janitor is a lawyer, some people say he is a private investigator, who handles the tough problems that can't be presented in court.

The cast is excellent. George Clooney is believable as the firm's "miracle worker". Tilda Swinton is effective as a success driven attorney and Sydney Pollack makes a good boss for Michael.

The filming and technical support make the story gripping and very exciting. The action, which has several flashbacks, is rapid and thrilling. This is a fun movie.

Swap two adjacent pieces, and if you make a line of three or more pieces, it will disappear and new pieces will fall onto the board. The more matches you make, the higher your score. It's simple, challenging, and addictive. Keep track of your best performances, and keep an eye on the competition

Customer Review: bejeweled

I really enjoy playing this game. My Boyfriend and I play for hours at a time, until our hands are so cramped we can't move the fingers any more. It is extremely addicting! Can't wait to get Bejeweled 2!
